Man oh man! Do I have an AWESOME book to tell you about! Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth has quickly made its way to the top of my current favorites. As many of you who read my last post, I recently read & reviewed Divergent, which is the first book in the series. I cannot tell you how much I loved that book either (rated 5/5), but I read Insurgent right after reading book 1, something I NEVER do. I don’t like to read books back to back because I like to keep the characters fresh and exciting. Insurgent, however, was incredible!
What I really liked about the beginning was that it picked up directly after the first book ended. There was no time delay or “months later” type of thing. The story is very linear and follows well for the reader. The story is filled with twits and turns, and surprising outcomes. Definitely a book that will keep you up late reading.
My only suggestion for book three or maybe for even a novella, would to have some chapters or a novella based from Tobias’s, aka Four, character point of view. Insurgent is filled with wonderful monologues from Tris that really lets you into the mind of her characters thoughts and doubts. It’s almost as if you become a part of the story, whether you see yourself as Tris or a bystander. While her character develop on a deeper level with the reader, Tobias could use a little more connecting with the reader. He is easily connected with, but you can’t figure out why he does some actions. The reader can only have theories, which for as a reader I love getting into the minds of the characters.
Now, if you are the type of reader who can’t handle BIG cliffhangers at the end of a book because you hate waiting for the next book to come out, DON’T read this until the third books come out in September :P There was no resolution, no explanation, no reaction from the characters, NOTHING. It just ends with a huge Oh My God moment! It was absolutely amazing, but now I have to wait… boo! :P
5/5 birdies!! MUST READ! :]
