The review
Book Blurb:
Avalin Marsh is used to disappointment. When her mother murdered a woman in the kitchen of her home on her eleventh birthday, Avalin decided that the people in your life were only there to let you down. She built up walls over the years making a mental fortress impervious to disappointment, heartache and sadness. However it also isolated her from others, making her bitter... and lonely.

When her mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia after the murder, Avalin began to see and experience things that she couldn't explain. She thought she could handle these episodes by pushing them back into her mind. Until the day she sees one of her classmates morph into a monster right in front of her eyes. Pushed to the brink of paranoia, Avalin truly believes she's insane. Then a mysterious man named Albert comes into her life. She's wary of his motives yet for some reason finds herself drawn to him even though they've never met. What's even more inexplicable is that Albert knows who Avalin is. She's the daughter of the famous Abigail Marsh. Her mother.

Now the two of them will need to put their differences aside and trust one another. If Avalin can't let her guard down long enough to let Albert in, then there might be dire and far reaching consequences in store for them.

It turns out Avalin Marsh isn't as crazy as she thought.

I cursed her, blamed her, hated her...and I missed her so much.
But I missed me even more.

"There's been another senior prank, Avalin," Lyle said, exhausted from running.
Not this again. "No, come on! If it's Alan again I swear I'm going to kill him." I sighed and slapped my hand against my thigh, "What's drawn on my car this time? Breasts? Because if I go out and find one more cupcake-shaped set-"

"Don't you worry Avalin. Things will unravel sooner or later. Or maybe they won't? Such is life and they way it flows. Until we figure out, however, I still have the Blind Side if you're interested."

My Thoughts:
First and foremost I'd like to thank A.L. Collins and A.L Collins Publications for the review copy.

Avalin's mother killed a woman in her own home and now years later Avalin thinks she's going crazy too seeing faces, hearing voices, but along come Albert who tells her she's not going crazy and that's where all the fun begins.

Romance, Intrigue, Adventure and non-human humans. What else can you ask for?! This books is brilliant. I found not one thing that I didn't like. Not one! The romance was swoon-worthy, the Intrigue kept me coming back to find out more, the adventure had me turning the pages at alarming rates and the non human humans well those you'll have to read for yourself.

Not only did it start out incredibly it it also middled (I think I just made up a word) and ended on the same note. A perfect end to leave me asking for more. The plot, the characters, pace, everything was incredible. There are little clues here and there that I think will come up in the sequel and I am just so excited to read and find out more.

Avalin is a quirky, smart mouthed take-no-crap-from-anyone kind of chick and I could really relate to her (well not the having a mother who killed someone in their kitchen part). The characters were all very real and we all know an Avalin, Albert, and Jessica in high school.

Overall this book was brilliant and I recommend this book to everyone! Seriously people go read it because if you don't you will be missing out on an amazing book. And trust me you want to know about the non-human humans!
I gave this book: (5/5)
About the Author & Interview

I'm a character enthusiest and lover of storytelling. I've spent most of my life listening to the tales that people tell and studying what makes a book or characters alive and interesting. Writing is my love and the details the flavor. I hope that people enjoy what I can create.

I had the pleasure of being able to interview Collins and here is how it went:

Me: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m nineteen years old and currently live in Manchester, Maryland. I’ve had a fascination with characters and storytelling my entire life. I love to watch how people react to both situations and other people. I find it fascinating what kind of dimension a good character can add to a story. I try to stay as busy as I can. I have quite a few hobbies and I’m currently working two jobs as well as writing my books, so I’m not in one spot for very long. If I had three words to describe myself they would be busy, empathetic and eccentric.
19 ladies and gentlemen, if you can believe it!
Me: How do you fill up your time when you aren't writing?
I try to spend as much time with friends as possible. If I’m not writing I’m usually working or exercising. I’ve recently been trying to stay in shape. It’s easy to pass a lot of time sitting in front of a laptop writing a book, so staying active is a must for me. I love making music and playing videogames… a lot of me reflects the typical teenager I suppose. I love to go to the beach whenever life allows it. I am an ocean addict.
I think I can speak for all us when I say we can relate.
Me: If you could pick any character in your book to be real who would it be?
Oh jeez that’s way too hard. I love all my characters so much that it’s so difficult to choose. I’d have to say that Syrius from my book Bastion would be the one, however. Syrius has such a strange sense of humor that I have come to adore. I hadn’t even planned on making him so humorous. It was just one snappy comeback after another until his personality just blossomed. He’s also a great friend to have. He’s been alone all of his life so he really values his friends and he’ll do anything he can to help them. In a sense he’s just afraid of being alone, and that’s something I think I respect most about his personality. People who will work hard to keep their friendships alive are really hard to come across. Granted Syrius tries as hard as he can to be selfish. He’s just really, really bad at it.
Heroes like that are one in a million.
Me:What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Twined had so many chapters that I enjoyed writing. But honestly the one that I enjoyed the most was the prologue. And I say that because that’s how I started with Twined. The prologue was something I had just written up on the fly. That was the beginning of the Twined series. Everything flowed from that one prologue. I loved the mystique and the raw emotion of it all. You really get to see why Avalin is the way she is. Her past may not be pretty and she may try to ignore it all, but by the end of that chapter you are going to enter Twined with nothing but questions and anticipation. I think it was the perfect start to the series.
Me:Who is your all time hero?
My hero may very well be my manager James. He’s really been the entire reason my books have even come this far. James is a jack of all trades. Whatever he decides to do, he does it, and he does it well. He’s reliable in most every situation I could even think of. To find that balance between extremes is a rare feat, and James I think has been able to find a good balance in so many different areas of life. It’s a real experience to meet a person you get along so well with. People like him are so hard to come by. He’s the defining image of what I’d like to be one day. I’m pretty young. I’ve got a lot of time to learn.
Shout out the the awesome James!
Me:Describe your writing style twitter style. 140 characters or less. Go!
Character driven and creative, filled with action, romance and descriptive flavor.
Me:Where is your favorite reading niche?
I may sound like I’m obsessive, but the one place I love to read really is the beach. There’s something magical about reading in a place that stimulates all your senses. You experience everything at the beach. The warmth of the sun, the taste of the salt, the smell of the wind, it’s all very captivating. I’ve said it before that when you’re at the beach you feel like the world belongs to you, which is a similar feeling when you read a book. Of course I think I’d also love writing at the beach. I haven’t gotten to try that yet. I’m really aching to experience it.
Same here. It is amazing what nature, especially the ocean can do for you!
Me: Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers?
A big thought I’d like to give to my readers is that I hope they never lose their imaginations. I hope they can lose themselves in my worlds and see themselves in my characters. I want them to feel things they’ve never thought of feeling before. It’s an amazing feeling to escape into a book you truly enjoy. I just hope people have fun reading what I write.
Well I sure did and I'm sure others who read this will also.
